Open access to information is the bedrock upon which participatory democracy thrives. Among the various places to which the general public can turn for information, public libraries in particular play a vital role in enabling people to make informed decisions on all matters that affect their lives. This is because a fundamental principle of the library and information management profession is to be impartial in making the widest possible array of information available to users, without the imposition of personal bias or unwarranted censorship.
